Who Should Replace Eddie Murphy as Oscars Host?

Eddie Murphy

Eddie Murphy, the star of the new film Tower Heist, has dropped out as host of the Academy Awards just one day after producer Brett Ratner, the director of the new film Tower Heist, exited as producer of the Academy Awards.  Ratner made anti-gay slurs while promoting Heist as well as other controversial comments while on the Howard Stern Sirius XM show.  While the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences scrambles to find a new producer, here are some suggestions as to who could replace Eddie Murphy.

Billy Crystal

Billy Crystal

Crystal has hosted the Oscars numerous times, and brought home respectable ratings most of the time. He’s funny, likable, and up to the challenge.

Alec Baldwin

Alec Baldwin

Baldwin is an actor first, not a comedian, but he’s quick-witted and funny. But is he strong enough to keep a three hour show moving?

Andy Cohen

Andy Cohen

The Bravo executive/talk show host has done well hosting pageants for Bravo’s mother network, NBC.  One major minus is that he has nothing to do with films. Oh well. He’s still funny.

Whoopi Goldberg

Whoopi Goldberg

She’s a movie star who’s won an Oscar and has experience hosting the show. Plus, she’s an ABC star thanks to The View. Seems like a done deal to me.

Charlie Sheen

Charlie Sheen

He needs a job, and think of the ratings he would bring.

UPDATE: The Academy announced late today that Billy Crystal will host the show. Sorry, Charlie.

Danielle Staub Officially Off “Real Housewives of New Jersey”

After weeks of speculations, the Bravo cable channel has officially announced that Danielle Staub has made her final appearance on The Real Housewives of New Jersey. The announcement comes one day after the Housewives reunion episode that ended with Staub hugging it out with former enemies Teresa Guidice and Jacqueline Laurita.

“The reunion was Danielle’s last appearance on ‘The Real Housewives of New Jersey,'” stated Bravo’s senior vice president of original programming and development, Andy Cohen.  “We thought the hugs were a great way to end two seasons of bitterness between the women.”

Rumor has it that Staub was fired after the remaining cast – Guidice, Laurita, and Caroline Manzo vowed to quit the highly rated reality series if Staub returned for another season. Meanwhile, Staub says she is weighing her options from “major networks” about starring in her own show.

Love her or hate her, Danielle Staub brought out the worst in her cast mates, and that made for great television.  Some of the highlights of Hurricane Danielle’s run on Housewives include the famous fight with Teresa that led to Jacqueline’s daughter Ashley pulling out a handful of Staub’s hair (extension), Staub arriving with armed bodyguards to a fundraiser for a cancer-stricken child then storming out because she wasn’t happy with her table, and Staub’s unintentionally hilarious conversation with her priest about how hatred for her cast mates – not to mention Staub’s off-screen shenanigans that include not one, but two sex tapes. But, it was the table flip seen ’round the world that made people everywhere stop and take notice of The Real Housewives of New Jersey.
