Dick Clark died this morning of a heart attack in a Los Angeles hospital. He was 82. Clark had been in St. John’s hospital in Santa Monica after undergoing an outpatient procedure on Tuesday evening. He made a name for himself as host of TV’s American Bandstand, a position he held from 1959 until 1989. He also hosted the popular Pyramid game show from 1973-88. Clark may be most known, however, for hosting the annual Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve every December 31 for over four decades.
Clark was also a brilliant businessman, who created and produced numerous television programs including The American Music Awards.
