Ryan Seacrest’s three-year, $45 million contract to host American Idol is up at the end of this season, and reports are flying fast and furious that the show will either cut Seacrest’s pay or replace him. American Idol has experienced an increase in viewers despite losing Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell (as well as replacements Ellen DeGeneres and Kara DioGuardi). With stats like that, media experts say Seacrest doesn’t have much to bargain with when it comes time to re-up with the show.
But don’t shed any tears for Ryan Seacrest. He is still the lead news anchor for E! News, hosts the annual Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, and hosts a radio show. He’s also is on the short list for potential replacements as host of Today if Matt Lauer decided to leave the show when his contract expires at the end of the year.
