Troy Davis Executed

Troy Davis, the Georgia inmate convicted and sentenced to death for the 1989 slaying of off-duty police officer Mark McPhail, was executed last night after the Supreme Court rejected a stay of execution.  Several witnesses recanted their testimony after his trial.  Enough evidence was brought forward to raise the question of his guilt.  Jimmy Carter and Pope Benedict XIV have both publicly stated they believed in Davis’ innocence. Never the less, Davis executed by means of lethal injection and was pronounced dead at 11:08pm Eastern time last night. His last words, as he was strapped in a gurney on his way to be killed, were, “For those about to take my life, may God have mercy on your souls. May God bless your souls.”
