It’s a good year for television. After last year’s disappointing crop of new shows led by ABC’s should-have-been-so-much-better FlashForward, viewers this year have been treated to a fun re-boot of Hawaii Five-O, the engrossing Boardwalk Empire, and most recently AMC’s The Walking Dead.
At first site, The Walking Dead looks like something that would be dismissed as a B-level horror retread. It is, however, instead an incredibly well-written/acted/directed drama. Sure, there are zombies who want to eat the brains of the few remaining survivors, but the characters never forget they are people. They react to the zombie apocalypse the way we would react to any national/global tragedy – with feelings. After debuting to record ratings, AMC has picked up the show for another season.
