When 18 year old Rutgers student Tyler Clementi asked his dorm roommate for privacy, he had no idea that his roommate, 18 year old Dharun Ravi was broadcasting Clementi’s intimate encounter over the internet via a webcam in Clementi’s dorm room. A posting on Ravi’s Twitter page stated, “Roommate asked for the room till midnight. I went into molly’s room and turned on my webcam. I saw him making out with a dude. Yay.” Days later, Clementi posted a farewell on his Facebook page, “Jumping off the gw bridge sorry.” Clementi’s personal items were found at the George Washington Bridge and an unidentified male has been recovered from the Hudson River, but has not been identified as Clementi as of yet.
Ravi and Molly Wei, also 18, have been charged with two counts of invasion of privacy. But is that enough? Should Ravi and Wei be charged with Clementi’s death? What do you think?
