History was made yesterday when Barack Obama became the first sitting U.S. president to appear on a daytime talk show. Now, I don’t find that to be particularly historic, but Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sherri Shepard, and Elisabeth Haselbeck seem to think it’s the most important event of the year. Critics came out from both sides (including former Hillary Clinton supporter, PA governor Ed Rendell) to say that President Obama should be tending to more important things than what Whoopi and Joy are discussing during the “Hot Topics” portion of the show. After seeing the episode, which was entirely devoted to the interview with Mr. Obama, I actually think that it was good for President Obama to appear on the show. He got to speak directly to the public in a comfortable and informal setting, and – as always – his communication skills were excellent. And, for the most part, even Elisabeth Hasselback was on her best behavior.
